The CBEES lab, in conjunction with the Wilson Lab at Rice University, went to Port Lavaca, TX to perform field research in July 2009. Experiments measured risk tolerance and future orientation of residents of coastal communities. Results will be compared to a control group of residents in less risky areas in order to develop a better understanding of people who locate to risky areas. Researchers in attendance were Dr. Catherine Eckel, graduate students Tara Larson, Sheheryar Banuri, and Natalia Candelo Londono, and undergraduate student worker Tom Sires. 148 Port Lavaca citizens, including 6 city and county government leaders, participated in the experimental sessions. The lab will continue this study in Brownwood, TX in late September and early October.
