CBEES faculty present work at ASSA Annual Meetings

Rachel Croson, Catherine Eckel, and Sherry (Xin) Li each presented papers at the most recent Allied Social Science Association meetings in New Orleans, January 4-6, 2008.

Croson presented “Keeping up with the Joneses: The relationship between norms, social information and subsequent charitable giving” in a session chaired by John List at the University of Chicago on Charitable Contributions. “Social networks and Charitable Giving” was presented in a session chaired by Erin Krupka of IZA (Institute for Labor Economics, Bonn) on Field Experiments in Charitable Giving. She also discussed four papers of other authors working in similar areas.

Eckel presented "Status in Networks" in a session on Social Comparison, chaired by Yan Chen of the University of Michigan, and "Giving to Government: Voluntary Taxation in the Lab" in a session sponsored by the National Tax Association, titled: What Can Experimental Economics Teach Us About Public Finance? She also discussed one paper by another author and chaired a session organized by Sherry Li.

The topic of Li's session was Economics and Social Identity, and included presentations by Benjamin Ho (Cornell), James Fletcher (Yale) and Karla Hoff (World Bank) in addition to her own presentation, "Group Identity and Social Preferences".
